It’s official! iPhone 14 is here—with more bang for your buck than one. Boasting a larger display, powerful camera upgrades, and valuable new features that will take user experience up a notch, it's your never-before-seen essential everyday companion.
Apple finally introduced the much-awaited addition to iPhone in its keynote event, Far Out, on September 8, 2022. All the buzz is finally settling (or maybe just starting) as it introduced not one, not two, but four iPhone 14 models, along with new generations of Apple Watch and AirPods Pro.
Meet the iPhone 14 Lineup
This year's iPhone 14 series consist of iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Supported with the latest iOS version, iOS 16, they’re packed with new features to make your day-to-day life easier.
iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
Like the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, iPhone 14 comes in a 6.1-inch screen. On the other hand, the iPhone 14 Plus has a larger display of 6.7-inch. With a bigger screen, you can view text and content more conveniently. For gamers, this is also an added benefit as it makes games immersive and enjoyable. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus colors are available in Midnight (black), Starlight (white), Blue, Purple, and PRODUCT(RED).
iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max
The iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, like the first two models in the lineup, also feature 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes. In terms of color variations, they come in familiar hues from older models like Gold, Silver, and Space Black, with the addition of a new one —Deep Purple.
Stunning Display, Durable Design
All iPhone 14 variants are made with industry-leading durable design. Its first two models are encased in a sleek and firm aerospace-grade aluminum. The iPhone 14 Pro lineup, on the other hand, has the most advanced display on a smartphone yet, made with surgical-grade stainless steel and textured matte glass design in thinner borders.

It has rounded corners that follow a smooth curve design. All models flaunt a gorgeous Super Retina XDR Display. But unlike the first two models, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup features ProMotion. This is the same ProMotion technology with a refresh rate of up to 120 hertz on the preceding generation's Pro models. The difference is that its variable refresh rate can go down from 120hz to 1hz per second. It means that while the screen refreshes faster, responds quicker, and is smoother than ever when you scroll, it can also be adjusted to 1hz to save battery life. Additionally, iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max feature a glowing difference compared to previous generations—the Always-On Display.
-
Always-On Display
The iPhone 14 lineup is the first range of Apple's smartphone models with the Always-On Display feature, supported by the updated OLED technology. The Always-On Display lets you see what's most important at a glance. Like the Always-On feature on Apple Watch, it's easy to see reminders and notifications without turning on buttons or tapping screens. -
Ceramic Shield Front Cover
Tougher than any smartphone glass on the market, the Ceramic Shield cover protects all models of the latest smartphone from Apple from scratches and damages that could be caused by water and dust. It has a rating of IP68 under IEC Standard 60529 and can withstand water depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes.
Brightness
The OLED technology used in the XDR display of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus supports 1200 nits peak HDR brightness, while the two other models in the Pro lineup can reach the highest outdoor peak brightness in a smartphone—2000 nits. It's twice as bright as the Pro models of the previous generation! This means that you'll still be able to see your screen clear as day despite being under the glare of the blazing sun.
Thermal Performance
Despite frequent gaming and running heavy tasks, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are built to be dependable with their updated internal design that boosts thermal performance. This means that these latest models won’t easily heat up even when used for demanding tasks.
Reliable Battery Life
Apple's latest smartphone lineup dethrones the iPhone 13 series in terms of the best battery life. The past Pro Max model can last up to 28 hours of video playback, up to 95 hours of audio playback, and up to 25 hours of video streaming. With the new series, playback and streaming capabilities are as follow:

Phenomenal Camera Upgrades
State-of-the-art camera technology awaits new and old Apple device users with its new smartphone lineup. The latest series have an advanced dual camera system and upgraded camera features far better than anything seen on any iPhone before.
Main Camera
The 12MP Main camera of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is revamped with bigger sensors and larger pixels at 1.9μm, faster ƒ/1.5 aperture, and sensor-shift OIS. With this upgrade, you can take highly-detailed photos, any time, anywhere – in ALL lighting scenarios. On the flip side, the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max have a 48MP Main camera with a quad-pixel sensor that also delivers better low-light performance. You can take advantage of the main camera when you take 48MP pictures on ProRAW—offering more flexibility in editing your photos.
Photonic Engine
The new Photonic Engine powers the camera system in all models in the latest series. It enhances image quality and low-light performance — delivering 49% low-light improvement and twice as fast Night Mode exposure. For iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus, it renders up to 2.5x improvement for low-light photos taken using the Main camera and up to 2x boost in low-light environment with the front camera and Ultra Wide camera. On the other hand, the remaining two models provide up to 2x better low-light performance with the Main camera, front camera, and Telephoto camera. The Ultra Wide camera's low-light performance is also bumped up to 3x better than its previous counterparts. From subtle texture to color, the Photonic Engine improves image quality with fast computational power.
TrueDepth Front Camera With Autofocus
Good news for selfie-holics! Taking a selfie is now easier and better with the front camera autofocus. With Focus Pixels, the front camera can shoot better images at varying distances. Moreover, a larger ƒ/1.9 aperture provides 38% better light-gathering performance for the front camera.
Action Mode
No need for stabilizing accessories when filming scenes in motion. The new Action mode produces incredibly stabilized videos and records in Dolby Vision HDR. You can get smooth-looking videos with gimbal-like stabilization despite all the sharp, abrupt, and continuous movements.
Cinematic Mode
Cinematic mode has been around for a while now, but with the latest generation, it is bumped up to 4k at 30 frames per second. It also allows you to record at the cinematic frame rate of 4k at 24 frames per second.
Adaptive True Tone Flash
The new and refined True Tone flash adjusts depending on the camera you're using. An array of nine LEDs that change patterns based on the chosen focal length made up its redesign. This way, it enhances brightness and provides uniform lighting to your pictures.
12MP Ultra Wide Camera
The Ultra Wide Camera offers a unique perspective for taking photos. It expands the view so you can shoot images in a wider perspective. With Photonic Engine’s support, it has an improved low-light performance of up to 2x—great enough to make a huge difference in image quality.
Other Features
Other amazing camera features include those from the previous generations like auto image stabilization, ProRaw, and photo geotagging.
Smartphone and Safety Device in One
Aside from your daily to-dos, you can now rely on your smartphone for emergencies, too! All iPhone 14 models are enhanced with groundbreaking safety features that will help you get assistance during emergencies.
Crash Detection
With the all-new Crash Detection feature, it's easier to get help during an accident. In a severe car crash, any iPhone 14 model automatically notifies your contacts and emergency services. Their new high dynamic range (HDR) gyroscope, together with the dual-core accelerometer, can detect a G-force measurement of up to 250Gs. This, in addition to the use and improvement of other components like the GPS, barometer, and microphone, enables the iPhone to determine car crashes. It also maximizes the Apple Watch's capability to contact emergency services when the Apple Watch is in closer proximity to you than the smartphone.
Emergency SOS via Satellite Connectivity
As a breakthrough technology from Apple, the Emergency SOS via satellite connection helps you send messages to emergency numbers even without a WiFi or mobile phone signal. This is made possible by an interactive sensor that guides you to point to specific satellite positions. This feature, however, is available for US and Canada only.
A New Kind of Experience with Dynamic Island
Dynamic Island redefines user experience and introduces a new way of optimizing the usability of your smartphone. It is an interactive, pill-shaped cut-out on the upper part of the iPhone 14 Pro lineup's screen that shows notification alerts, reminders, and other activities happening in real time on your screen. The True Depth camera was redesigned to accommodate the size of the Display Island without blocking all other contents on the screen, especially the personalizations on your Lock Screen. Third-party apps on iOS 16 that provide information can take advantage of Dynamic Island. For instance, sports streaming apps can show updates on the interactive tool.
More Ways to Connect With Enhanced Connectivity
Apple built more bridges for you to connect with friends and loved ones near and far. Below are connectivity features supported on its most recent smartphone releases to make connection seamless for you.
5G
All iPhone 14 models work on a super-fast 5G cellular connection. It enables fast downloads and uploads, real-time connectivity, and better streaming on the device.
eSim
Aside from the supported dual SIM capability of the entire series, it also supports eSim. An eSim allows you to activate a cellular plan without the use of an actual nano-sim. With it, you can quickly and easily transfer all your digital plans. It provides a safer and more convenient way of connecting and transferring data.
Faster and Mightier Silicon Chip
Of course, one of the best features of an iPhone, and one that most users and developers are looking forward to, is Apple's silicon chip. And definitely, enthusiasts and switchers alike are in for a treat! While the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus use the A15 Bionic chip that is also used by iPhone SE, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup uses the A16 chip—the latest in all of Apple device variants. The A15 Bionic chip features a 5-core GPU, 6-core CPU, and 16-core Neural Engine that offers a proven and tested faster performance, especially with graphics-heavy tasks.
A16 Bionic Chip
With the A16 Bionic chip in the iPhone Pro lineup, the smartphone's performance is even faster and better. Hailed as the best silicon chip yet, the A16 Bionic boasts an accelerated 5-core GPU with 50% more memory bandwidth. It has a new 6-core CPU that is 40% faster than the competition, and a 16-core Neural Engine that is capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second. The chip delivers better performance with a fraction of the power compared to the competition, making it more power efficient. With the new A16 Bionic chip, no power is too short and no task is too heavy.
Better Performance With Heavy-Duty iOS 16
Experience a whole new level of interactive user interface with iOS 16. With this new operating system taking advantage of the iPhone 14 series' capabilities, the reimagined Lock Screen leverages three general but very significant benefits to the user:
-
Customizable display and communication
Personalize your phone's wallpaper with your most treasured photos or live wallpaper from countless options in the wallpaper gallery. Get alerts from redesigned widgets at a glance and communicate more effectively with new communication features like editing a sent message or deleting it with the Undo Send option. -
Interactive intelligence software
Machine learning is a staple in every Apple device upgrade, and is now also an important recipe for boosting productivity. The Live Text intelligence feature recognizes texts in videos and quickly translates and converts them into currency, and many more. Inversely, the Visual Look Up feature allows you to lift a subject from an image and place it on other apps like Messages.
-
Personalized sharing options
You can seamlessly share a collection of photos of loved ones and pets, mail, and message updates with the iCloud Shared Photo Library.
